Performative intervention by Lindsay Lawson, Jenna Sutela & Alex Turgeon

Lindsay Lawson will give an extract from the script to her up-coming feature film The Smiling Rock – a quasi-narrative constructed around a woman who falls in love with a rock listed on eBay.
Jenna Sutela will do a reading of her text Noise Tribe Speaking-Out-of-Control, exploring language as a virus and encryption as poetry.
Alex Turgeon will perform SOME FAGGOT POEMS Born in the United States and living in Berlin, Lindsay Lawson received her BFA in Sculpture from Virginia Commonwealth University, her MFA in New Genres from UCLA, and attended the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main. Her work spans media such as film, video, installation, photography, sculpture, performance, and poetry. Her practice deals with issues of presence and objecthood in virtual and physical spaces. Numerous recent projects investigate states of infatuation with virtual personas and both virtual and physical objects. Her first feature-length film, “The Smiling Rock” is was shot in Berlin and is currently in post-production. She has exhibited internationally at venues such as LAXART, Los Angeles; Yossi Milo Gallery, New York; Carroll/Fletcher, London; Gillmeier Rech, Berlin; Justina M. Barnicke Gallery, Toronto; Reed College, Portland; New Orleans Film Society; Beijing Biennale.
Jenna Sutela’s written, directed, installed and performed projects explore the ways in which we interface with technology. Her work has been presented, among other places, at Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin, Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma, Helsinki and South London Gallery and writing published by, for example, Frieze, Harvard Design Magazine and Sternberg Press. Sutela has a background in media and design research. She currently lives and works between Helsinki and Berlin.
Alex Turgeon (b. 1988, Halifax, Nova Scotia) is an artist and poet based in Berlin. He is the founding editor of General Fine Arts, an e-journal focused on literary arts. Recently his work has been exhibited and preformed at Proxy Gallery and Brown University (Rhode Island), as part of Poetry as Practice online exhibition hosted by Rhizome and the New Museum (New York), Contemporary Art Centre (Vilnius), French Riviera (London), Toves (Copenhagen), the AIRBNB Pavilion (Venice) and Motto Distribution (Berlin). Recent residencies include tank.tv as part of Sanssouci Realty (London) and Rupert (Vilnius). His most recent publication Listen (Motto Books, 2014) and other publications are available via Motto Distribution, Art Metropole and iTunes.
